How to Free Up Storage Space on Your Device

Running out of storage space on your phone can be frustrating and can cause apps, including SalesMail, to crash or not perform properly. When you log into your SalesMail mobile app, SalesMail will display a warning if you have 4 GB or less available storage space on your device so that you have a chance to free up space on your phone and avoid any issues with app performance. This article includes instructions on how to free up storage space on your iPhone or Android device.

For iPhone Users

  1. Check Storage Usage:

    • Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage. Here, you'll see a breakdown of what's consuming your space.
  2. Offload Unused Apps:

    • Your iPhone can automatically offload apps you don't use often while keeping their documents and data. To enable this, go to Settings > App Store > enable Offload Unused Apps.
  3. Delete Large Attachments in Messages:

    • Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Review Large Attachments. You can delete large files directly from this menu.
  4. Manage Photos and Videos:

    • Use the "Optimize iPhone Storage" option in Settings > Photos. This keeps smaller versions of photos on your device and stores the originals in iCloud.
    • Consider deleting unnecessary screenshots, videos, or duplicates.
  5. Clear Safari Cache:

    • To clear Safari's cache, go to Settings > Safari and choose Clear History and Website Data.
  6. Review and Delete Unused Apps:

    • From the iPhone Storage menu, you can see which apps use the most space. Consider deleting apps you no longer need.
  7. Empty Deleted Photos and Messages:

    • Go to the Recently Deleted album in Photos and the Recently Deleted folder in Messages to permanently remove items.

For Android Users

  1. Check Storage Usage:

    • Go to Settings > Storage. Different Android versions might have slightly different paths. This menu shows you what's taking up your space.
  2. Use Google's Files App:

    • Google's Files app can help manage your storage and clear junk files. It suggests unused apps to remove, large files to delete, and more.
  3. Clear Cache and Data of Apps:

    • Go to Settings > Apps & notifications > See all apps. Tap on an app, then Storage & cache. Here you can clear the cache or clear storage for apps that consume a lot of space.
  4. Delete Unnecessary Files:

    • Use a file manager app or the Files app by Google to remove downloads, duplicate files, and other unnecessary files.
  5. Move Photos and Videos to Cloud Storage:

    • Consider using Google Photos, which can automatically back up your photos and videos to the cloud. You can then delete them from your device to free up space.
  6. Manage Downloads Folder:

    • Regularly check and clean your Downloads folder. This can often be a hidden source of storage consumption.
  7. Use a MicroSD Card (If Available):

    • If your device supports expandable storage, consider using a microSD card to move photos, videos, and even some apps out of your device's internal storage.
