📸 Advanced Camera vs. Basic Camera: Why Your Video May Not Look Mirrored

Some users have noticed that the SalesMail app Advanced Camera (our default camera, required for Snap lenses) does not mirror the preview while recording. This is intentional and necessary for lenses to track your face correctly and apply effects accurately.

If you prefer to record with a mirrored camera - meaning the preview looks like what you see in a front-facing selfie - you have an option to switch to the Basic Camera, which is mirrored.

🔍 Why the Advanced Camera Isn’t Mirrored

Snap’s lens technology relies on accurate face tracking.
Mirroring the image during recording would interfere with how lenses detect your features, so the Advanced Camera must remain unmirrored for lenses to function properly.

🎥 Want a Mirrored Recording? Use the Basic Camera.

If you prefer a traditional “selfie-style” mirrored view, you can switch to the Basic Camera at any time.

How to switch to the Basic Camera:

  1. Open the SalesMail app

  2. Tap the Account button (bottom right)

  3. Select Preferences

  4. Turn Advanced Camera OFF

  5. The app will now use the Basic Camera, which is mirrored.

⭐ Important Notes

  • Turning Advanced Camera OFF gives you a mirrored recording experience

  • You will not have access to lenses while using the Basic Camera

  • You can switch back at any time by re-enabling Advanced Camera
